Balance

Listening to my body is how i find balance.

I used to subscribe to the sweet/salty mentality of needing to eat something sweet to balance out my salty meal. I also used to subscribe to no fats are healthy fats, eating less calories no matter what type of calories they are is good, & added sugar is the only type of sugar. ⠀
⠀
Since debunking all of those nutritional myths, that I learned via society’s ever gracious diet culture, I’ve learned to listen to what my body needs. This was my process: ⠀
⠀
💫 The most logical way to start was to get my body back to square one. I wanted to nail down the foods my gut couldn’t tolerate & which foods needed to be on a sliding scale. I asked myself questions like How does my stomach feel after this meal? How is my digestion? Did my skin break out a few days after eating this food? Was I bloated the morning after eating this food? ⠀
⠀
💫 Then, I wanted to incorporate neutralizing habits like breaking a sweat multiple times a week, drinking lemon water to kick-start my digestion & flush out toxins, & getting appropriate amounts of sleep each night so my body could actually benefit from the other habits I was incorporating.⠀
⠀
💫 Next, I thought about “crowding out” sugar. For me, this meant incorporating healthy fats & sweeter veggies into my diet so I didn’t crave processed sugar at certain times of the day. This also meant taming my stress & anxiety so I didn’t turn to sugar as an outlet, & finding other foods that satisfied me if and when my stress levels went up. ⠀
⠀
💫 Finally, I worked on my breathing habits… YUP breathing. It’s important to breathe properly so we can calm our bodies down & allow natural digestion & relaxation to occur. ⠀
⠀
This was what worked for my body & my lifestyle, & I'm here to help you figure out what works for yours. Remember that no matter where you're at in your journey towards #balance you're doing great 💫⠀

My mindfulness practices are how I prioritize my mental health.

I know that starting a new practice can feel a little daunting and can be confusing at first. I definitely had to do my fair share of research and trial/error. In an effort to help you explore mindfulness practices in a simple way, I recorded five, free 15 minute sessions on my Instagram page. The sessions include: breathing, journaling, stretching, gratitude (-ing?), and manifesting. The approach I take in each video is one of guiding you to get started with each practice. You should keep what you like and get rid of what you don't like, because not every practice is for everyone. If you’ve been waiting for a sign to dive in, then this is it!
