Third Eye Chakra: Ajna
Beautiful, lopsided, imperfect, & always perfectly me. This picture reminds me that life is a process, just as practicing yoga is a process. 2019 has brought more challenges than I’d like to admit. There have been major ups & massive downs. Through it all, though, we have our bodies & they deserve to be treated with kindness, respect, & gratitude. Ajna helps us reflect on ourselves, clear our thoughts, & unite the things we do with how we truly feel.

My interpretation of the third eye chakra is that it is the chakra that gives us a little reminder of who we really are so that we can return back to that person if we start to stray away. It helps us dig through anything life might have piled on top of us- the good bad & ugly, the emotions, the traumas, the relationships- to pull out the bits & pieces of our truest person & nurse that person back to health.

As a new year approaches & people start thinking about a resolution or declaring new habits, consider the third eye chakra. Remember that you are perfect just the way you are. Dedicate your practice, or even just a few breaths to reminding yourself of that fact. Balancing this chakra helps to rid ourselves of lingering judgements, negative thoughts & feelings, & emotional barriers so that we can be a little more free & confident in who we are.

But this is not easy. Yoga is a lifelong practice & this chakra is a perfect example of that. So as we dedicate our new year to being better in some way or another, we can’t forget to be kind to ourselves. While practicing this chakra I hope to remind my students that every good habit should start with baby steps. Maybe consider doing one small something just for yourself every single day. Instead of, for example, cutting something out cold turkey, we might try baby steps & those might just become habits over time. Choose wellness & self love this holiday szn.
